Arizona Pharmacy Alliance CE Program

The Arizona Pharmacy Alliance presents a live CE program: MRSA - The New Plague on Humanity?, at each of our State’s Colleges of Pharmacy from 6:30-8pm on May 7th in Tucson, and May 8th in Glendale.

The purpose of this program is to provide an update of infectious diseases caused by methicillin- resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), including: the most common clinical manifestations; the differences between community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) and health-care facility associated MRSA (HA-MRSA); the current approaches to management of these infections (with both oral and injectable antimicrobial agents); and a glimpse into the future of potentially useful investigational agents.

At the conclusion of the program, attendees will be able to:

• Explain the common manifestations of infectious diseases caused by MRSA, and the differences between community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) and health-care facility associated MRSA (HA-MRSA).

• Compare the advantages and disadvantages of currently available oral antibiotic agents (including tetracyclines, anti-folate agents, clindamycin, telithromycin, rifamycins, fluoroquinolones and linezolid) and injectable antibiotic agents (including vancomycin, linezolid, daptomycin, quinupristin/dalfopristin, tigecycline) that have potential for treatment of infectious diseases due to MRSA.

• Discuss the various investigational antibiotic agents that may someday have a potential role in the treatment of infectious diseases due to MRSA, including teicoplanin, ramoplanin, dalbavancin, oritavancin, telavancin, ceftobiprole, iclaprim and faropenem).

• Have an uncontrollable urge to wash their hands.

Cost is only $5.00 for Arizona Pharmacy Alliance members or $15.00 for non-members. Download a flyer or register online at the Arizona Pharmacy Alliance website.
